The Mathematics Within

The Institute of Technology Center for Educational Programs will offer one three-week teacher professional development courses in the summer of 2008 (details listed under "In this Section" sidebar to the right). This intensive course aims to help teachers (grades 3-7) recognize the “language of mathematics,” deepen their math content knowledge, and connect new math knowledge not only to a teacher’s school curriculum but to the bigger picture of middle school math content. Participants will work with an instructional team to develop concept-specific mathematics enrichment units adaptable for a wide range of student skills, and comprehension levels.

Teachers will work closely with peers during the course and become part of an ongoing academic year teacher support system where they can continue learning, teaching, and developing leadership skills. For more information, please contact itcep@umn.edu
